Pittsburgh International Dance Film Festival

Join Shana Simmons Dance as it presents the sixth iteration of the Pittsburgh International Dance Film Festival!

The Opening Night Event at The Oaks Theatre features live dance performances from Shana Simmons Dance company dancers and a splattering of International screendance films.

Think of these as "mini movies" told through cinematic beauty and cultural movement forms.

On the fence? Don't know what screendance is? Listen to what others have to say about this festival....

"The PIDFF is one of my favorite arts events in Pittsburgh all year! The dance films selected from all over the world are unique, high-quality, exciting, and innovative works that I would not have a chance to enjoy otherwise. My husband and I love the in-person opening night event because you can sit and enjoy drinks and snacks while watching the live pre-show and these amazing films, and there is a great sense of community. I also enjoy taking my time to watch the films again online in the week after the opening night event, or catching up on any that I missed. We can't wait for next year's festival!" ~2025 Attendee

"Best film festival I attended this year" ~ 2024 Attendee

"I have so many! Such a kickass festival // An incredibly diverse curation of dance works from all over the world // Genuinely cannot wait for next year's festival // There were many stellar dance film works in this festival. I have a hard time choosing my favorite!" ~2023 Attendee

This festival features a wide range of dance films from different countries and honors a "Constructed Sight" category which highlights public works of art or focuses films on a site specific location.

One artist in 2022 stated, "I've never experienced a dance film festival with such a sense and feeling of community before."

This festival exists to bring people together across nations with an aim to develop personal relationships and artistic dialogue.

Hobb Sisters

Hobbs Sisters, twins Hannah and Lauren Hobbs, have earned the reputation of a country act on the rise. Dubbed a "fiery duo with soaring harmonies that most can only hope for," (American Songwriter), the Pittsburgh, PA natives began singing in church from a young age, crediting their grandfather for introducing them to country music and guitar. In 2017 Hobbs Sisters to made the move to Nashville, where they further honed their skills as artists and songwriters. The duo has performed on coveted stages in Nashville including The Bluebird Cafe and Whiskey Jam and have opened for many artists including Lady A, Russell Dickerson, Brett Eldredge and more. Recognized for their "ultra close-knit harmonies," (Music Row), Hobbs Sisters released their second full length album in November 2025, produced by GRAMMY nominated songwriter and producer, Forest Whitehead.

Opening the show is Pittsburgh based country artist Frank Vieira.  Hard work and craftsmanship defines Frank's music career, a direct reflection of the way it started. It's been a decade since first making his own acoustic guitar piece by piece in Kevin LaDue's luthier class at Vestal High School. A class, and a guitar that sparked a journey across the country performing at some of the best Honky Tonks and festivals east of the Mississippi. Over the past 7 years Frank has built a resume and a buzz opening for some of the nation’s best while honing his own craft, with creative takes on lyrics, big radio hooks, and a live show that oozes with polish and confidence.
